SteamCloud Mini 2.0 Review | Newly Improved Vape for Wax & Oil

The SteamCloud Mini 2.0 is one of the latest arrivals on the market of oil and wax vape batteries. It's super stealthy and portable enough to fit discretely in your hand or pocket. It comes with handy magnetic adapters so that you can use most of the standard slim 510 thread oil cartridges. What's more, the adapter can be used with a wax cartridge, as well. With a decent 650mAh battery and super-easy operation, SteamCloud Mini 2.0 is the vape battery to go for!

SteamCloud Mini 2.0 comes in a neat box which contains:

  • 1 SteamCloud Mini 2.0 oil vaporizer
  • 1 Magnetic Cartridge Battery
  • 2 Metal Ring Oil Cartridge Adapters
  • 1 Metal Dab Tool
  • 1 USB Charging Cable and 1 User Manual

SteamCloud Mini 2.0 vs SteamCloud Mini

The main difference and the improvement compared to the original is that SteamCloud Mini 2.0 has three adjustable voltage settings while the previous version only had one. With a fixed power setting, there was nothing you could do if your hits with some cartridges were not the best
The 2.0 version, however has 3.4V, 3.7V, and 4.0V settings which allow for much better customization and help get better hits using a wider range of cartridges.

And there is another major improvement: the preheat function! It gets activated once you turn the device on (with the standard 5 clicks) and then press the power button twice quickly.

Although there's no need to use this feature all the time, we do recommended that you prime your new oil cartridges using the preheat. New cartridges tend to be thicker and slow moving, which may prevent you from getting a good hit. The preheating function will make sure that you enjoy a good hit from the start.

How do you use SteamCloud Mini 2.0?

If you haven't used the previous version, the first thing you need to do after unboxing SteamCloud Mini 2.0 is fully charge it using the USB cable provided. Here's where this device falls a little short compared to some other vapes: there is no battery charge indicator light. This is to be improved as it gets inconvenient when your vape dies on you all of a sudden. If you're in a car, a regular USB car charger will help but in other situations it would be great to know the level of your battery charge and how long you've got till the next charging. Depending on how much you vape, you may need to charge the battery daily as 650 mAh ain't much. It's the most the manufacturer could do to keep the device small and sleek.

Turing the vaporizer on or off is the standard rapid pressing the power button 5 times in succession.
The variable voltage setting, which is a new feature on 2.0 version, is changed using the same button. While the device is on, just press the power button quickly  3 times in a row. The settings go from low (green light indicates 3.4V) to medium (blue light turns on at 3.7V) to high (red light indicates 4.0V) and then back to the lowest setting.

If you attached a brand new oil cartridge or if you want have a good hit quickly, you can use the preheat function by pressing the power button twice in a row to prime the device at 1.8V .

To start vaping you need to press and hold the power button to heat the coils as this is not a device with vacuum auto power switch which is activated when inhaling. As a protection feature, SteamCloud Mini 2.0 will stops heating after 10 seconds. This will save the heating elements from damage. In general, it's advisable to start with the lowest setting (green, 3.4V) and increase the power if needed.

The device takes about 3 hours to fully charge and the USB port on the side conveniently lets you charge the device standing upright - wax and oil vapes need to be kept upright, especially after use. This is because the concentrates will turn into a viscous fluid when warm and it will flow with gravity. If left on the side or upside down, the hot oil may leak leaving a sticky mess wasting the concentrate.

Reloading the cartridges

The magnetic cartridge connection makes changing and reloading the cartridges a breeze! The magnet has a solid grip and locks firmly into place with an audible click. You can shake the device around and the cartridge won't move a bit! The magnet feature will also extend the life of your SteamCloud Mini 2.0 as screw top vapes eventually wear out or break the atomizer connection to the battery.

How does SteamCloud Mini 2.0 perform?

If you are looking for a device to hit many different carts, the SteamCloud Mini 2.0 is a great option. The wax atomizer which you get with the battery has a good build quality. It also hits harder than expected. The tank is designed as an oil tank and the mouthpiece had a mesh screen on it which keeps any wax from ending up into your mouth. The airflow could be better but with regular cleaning, gunk buildup can be prevented.

Overall, a solid 4.5/5 for the design, versatility and the performance!
